BBfG Membership: Become part of the BBfG community.

Not every organisation feels ready to be BBFG Verified.

You may want to experience the community first, build relationships and get involved before undertaking independent verification.

That’s exactly why we’ve created BBfG Membership.

For up to 12 months, you can experience life as part of the BBfG community, giving you the opportunity to attend events, meet other members and discover everything BBfG has to offer before deciding whether BBfG Verified is right for your organisation.

At any point during that time, you can choose to progress to BBfG Verified.

✓ Attend People Planet Pint.

✓ Join our monthly Sustainability Challenges.

✓ Access Community Action Programmes.

✓ Connect with businesses, charities and public sector organisations.

✓ Build valuable local relationships.

✓ Be part of the BBfG community.

“Being a business rooted in community and family values, we recognise our responsibility to be a role model for positive change. Through BBfG, we’re actively connecting with like-minded local businesses, sharing best practices, and working together to make a meaningful impact.”

Cheryl Standing, Head of People and Operations, Cornerstone Nurseries

Criteria for BBfG Verified that you can opt to follow as a BBFG Member

Support local suppliers

Wherever practical, support suppliers within approximately 50 miles of your organisation. Buying locally strengthens our economy, supports independent businesses and helps reduce transport-related emissions.

Pay fair

Pay at least the Real Living Wage, helping employees meet everyday living costs while demonstrating your commitment to fair employment practices.  (Does not include apprenticeships).

Be inclusive

Ensure your team has completed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion awareness training within the last two years, helping create a more inclusive workplace where everyone feels respected and valued.  If it’s not in place, we provide free links (for Basingstoke & Deane based businesses) to online courses that qualify against BBfG verification.

Attend People Planet Pint Basingstoke

Ensure members of your team regularly attend People Planet Pint networking events in Basingstoke. People Planet Pint Basingstoke is held six times a year at The Alchemy Wine bar at the top of town. It’s an informal environment to meet people in Basingstoke with an interest in sustainability and making Basingstoke a better place to live and work.  Attend at least three People Planet Pint events each year to connect with other BBfG organisations and the wider community, share ideas and build relationships with people who care about the future of North Hampshire.

Give funds to local causes

Support local charities or community organisations through financial giving, fundraising or sponsorship. Every organisation contributes differently, and BBfG recognises that there are many ways to make a positive impact.

Volunteer

Offer at least one paid volunteering/CSR day each year to every member of your team. Volunteering should take place in Basingstoke. From working in the Inspero community garden to supporting St Michael’s Hospice, there are many charities in the local area who don’t just need donations, but our time too. Volunteering gives your team the opportunity to support local causes while strengthening employee engagement and creating a positive impact across North Hampshire.

Challenge yourself to do better for people and planet

Set staff a practical monthly sustainability challenge to help improve the environment and engage your team in living a greener lifestyle at home – we provide lots of ideas for challenges.

BBfG FAQS

No. BBfG Membership is designed for organisations that want to become part of the community before undertaking verification. Some members choose to progress to BBfG Verified after a few months, while others join because they want to build relationships and experience everything BBfG has to offer first. You can hold a BBfG Membership for 12 months.

BBfG Members enjoy access to the BBfG community, including networking, Sustainability Challenges, Community Action Programmes, newsletters and member meetings.

BBfG Verified organisations receive all of these benefits, plus independent verification, the BBfG Verified logo, a certificate, media opportunities and public recognition for meeting the BBfG verification standards.  Being verified can also be advantageous for tenders, funding applications and your impact reporting.

BBfG Membership isn’t a discounted trial. It’s an opportunity to become part of the community and experience everything BBfG offers before deciding whether verification is right for your organisation.

We keep the pricing similar so organisations choose Membership because it suits where they are in their journey, not because it’s a cheaper alternative to verification.

No. BBfG recognises organisations that are committed to people, communities and the environment. Every organisation will be at a different stage of its journey, and verification reflects a balanced approach across all three.

Membership is available for up to 12 months.

During that time, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the BBfG community and decide whether you’d like to progress to BBfG Verified.

Yes.

If, during your Membership, you decide you’re ready, simply let us know and we’ll arrange your verification.

As a BBfG Member, attendance of PPP is optional.  But to get the most out of your membership we suggest connecting with other members as much as possible.

PPP is a relaxed, informal event where businesses, charities, schools and community organisations share ideas, build relationships and often discover new opportunities to collaborate.

Many members tell us it’s one of the most valuable parts of being BBfG  because the conversations are different from traditional business networking.

The events take place at The Alchemy Wine Bar.

Yes.

BBfG Members are encouraged to attend People Planet Pint, Quarterly Members’ Meetings and other BBfG events. They’re a fantastic way to meet like-minded organisations and build valuable local relationships.

BBfG Members will be recognised as Members of the BBfG community.

Only organisations that have successfully completed independent verification are listed as BBfG Verified.

Yes.

BBfG Members receive a BBfG Member logo that can be displayed on their website and marketing materials, showing they’re part of the BBfG community.

Once independently verified, you’ll receive the BBfG Verified logo.

EcoVadis is a global sustainability ratings platform used primarily within supply chains to assess environmental, labour, ethics and procurement practices.

BBfG Verified is designed to recognise organisations making a positive contribution within their local communities. It combines independent verification with networking, Community Action Programmes and practical opportunities to collaborate with other organisations across North Hampshire.

Some organisations are ready for verification straight away.

Others prefer to get to know the community, attend events, build relationships and understand what BBfG is all about before taking the next step.

Membership gives you the opportunity to do exactly that.

Yes.

BBfG Members are encouraged to get involved in Community Action Programmes, Sustainability Challenges and other community initiatives. It’s a great way to meet other members, support local causes and experience the collaborative spirit of BBfG.

No. If you decide to progress to BBfG Verified during your 12-month Membership, you won’t pay twice. We’ll simply arrange your verification and you’ll continue your membership as a BBfG Verified organisation until your annual renewal date.  For larger organisations, the fee for membership is slightly lower that of BBfG Verified, so there may be an extra payment.
